Abstract

Idioms and expressions are combinations of words or phrases that have a different meaning than their literal meaning, and it is difficult to understand their meaning from the combination of words. Idioms and expressions have implicit meanings that are made of free and bound morphemes and play a role as inseparable units in the sentence and have structural and semantic independence. The meaning of idioms is not derived from the meaning of the components of the composition, that is, their idiomatic meaning does not depend on the lexical meaning of the components of the composition. However, the overall meaning of Idioms can be inferred to some extent from their components. These Idioms and expressions like proverbs are already present in the speaker's mind and are used during the conversation. Khoruti dialect is rich in idioms and expressions, and most of the idioms and expressions have not entered the written literature, nor has anyone collected and explained these phrases. These phrases exist orally in the language of people, which if not preserved will be lost over time, recording them can help the development of language, literature and culture. The objective of this research article is to collect and preserve idioms and expressions from the dialect of the Kharoti tribe of Pashtuns. The research type of this article is library and field research and the research method is descriptive.
