Keywords:

In Pashto writing and research, little attention has been paid to critical thinking. There is a need to consider this concept within Pashto literature, research, and, more broadly, in Afghanistan’s educational and academic institutions. This gap in the Pashto language has motivated the writing of this article under the mentioned title. The article explains the concept of critical thinking and provides Pashto-based examples. The research method is bibliographic, and efforts have been made to examine the necessity of critical thinking within Afghanistan’s educational system. The aim of this study is to introduce critical thinking in Pashto writing on the one hand, and to draw attention to the importance of this concept in the educational system on the other. The findings indicate that there is a serious need to foster critical thinking within Afghanistan’s educational system. It is recommended that, at the undergraduate level, at least two credits of critical thinking be taught so that students can evaluate the quality of their own and others’ reasoning rationally and accurately, identify strengths and weaknesses in arguments, and work on improving weaker areas while strengthening solid points.
