Abstract

Over the past decade and a half, the topic of whether language has a genetic basis or not has become a significant subject of interest for linguists. One reason for drawing attention to this topic was the discovery of a family in which half of the members across three generations suffered from language disorders. The fact that a disorder recurs across several generations of a family suggests that the issue is likely linked to genes. This article discusses the relationship between language and genetics and concludes that language does have a genetic basis.

Based on the findings obtained, although the potential involvement of genes in language acquisition has been confirmed, we cannot yet state with certainty that a specific gene for language exists. We can only say that a gene has been found that is linked to language. If the function of this gene is disrupted, it causes language disorders. However, it is not yet entirely clear whether this language disorder is solely due to the disruption of this gene or if there is another contributing factor.
