Abstract

Teaching and training are the most essential means of shaping human beings and achieving fundamental goals. If a person is neither educated nor trained, they will never reach the purpose for which they were created, and they will remain merely instinct-driven like animals. A teacher is an individual from society whose efforts replace ignorance with knowledge, darkness with light, and prejudice and hostility with justice, equality, and brotherhood in the community. The noble religion of Islam has granted teachers a high position and value. This article, using a descriptive research design based on library sources, aims to explore the ethical and behavioral characteristics of lecturers (teachers) from the Islamic perspective, to clarify the status and responsibilities of a teacher drawing on the Holy Qur’an and Hadith. As a result, the specific moral and behavioral characteristics prescribed by the blessed religion of Islam for a Lecturer have been clearly outlined, and the teacher is obligated to adopt and implement them. These qualities include: knowledge, expertise, sincerity, humility, piety, honesty, commitment, compassion, kindness, courage, modesty, accountability, trustworthiness, safeguarding secrets, justice, fairness, patience, gentleness, maintaining the dignity of the profession, being consistent in words and actions, engaging students with kindness, and using a friendly, simple approach in instruction, promote goodness and forbidding evil. On the other hand, the lecturer is prohibited from all forms of discrimination, lack of perseverance, impatience, intolerance, haste in work, and disregard for mutual respect, anger and avoiding using bad and futile words. These characteristics are essential for a Muslim teacher (lecturer) to adopt and implement in order to fulfill their noble mission of teaching and guiding others effectively.
